Quell the tempest

June 29, 2008

Sometimes, when I get riled by the maid, I behave in front of the kids in a way that I really do not want to. But I cannot help it. When it comes to my children, my standards for everything from hygiene to their needs and wants are set ridiculously and unreasonably high. I know that it is hard for many others to live up to my expectations and when I lose control and reason evades me, I must say I am a pretty nasty monster of an employer. Tonight is one of those times. When I have calmed, though, I went over to say that I had over-reacted.

E, thanks for reading. YOU who do read are my closer friends and quite a few of you prefer to read and not comment. I am fine with that. I appreciate your pms though. Cheers.

Motherhood magic

June 25, 2008

Whenever I’m at work, I really miss my kids. How’s M at school? Are there going to be complaints from the teachers again? What about the little one? How’s his appetite? What does he have in his porridge today? Simple, seemingly trivial questions, yet they mean so much to me.

When I get home, the sparkle in their eyes. Yells of ‘Mummmyy!’ His little arms around my neck. The other’s flailing in excitement. Pleas to carry them. Implorations to take them to the playground. Earnest, almost piteous. My heart could literally melt.

A daughter. A wife. A sister. A friend. A teacher. I am, above all else, a mother.

A belated birthday present. Thanks Gwen!

Yay!

I would have liked a tetrabyte HD, but still, YAY!

Dome at Dempsey Hill – Andrew was trying to decide between the fish and chips and the lot burger when, knowing that he loves lamb, I suggested that he ordered the ’sea-red’ lamb.

I blame it on reading too much to the kid and pointing at the big words and breaking them up into syllables.

Two nights ago,

June 20, 2008

for the first time in seven months, we had some time alone. We left the kids at home with our domestic help and took a short drive down to Geylang for a quick dinner. That was close to 22 00. I could only leave with my mind at ease after the two kids were tucked into bed. It was not exactly the kind of romantic night out we, or at least I, would like to have on such rare occasions when we had a bit of alone time. Noisy. Humid. Greasy. Several tables with lone men having a late meal. Stall owners hounding us for our order. Durian sellers nearby hawking variants of the exotic fruit. But hey, I’d take it.

Speeeedy

I headed to Ngee Ann City this morning with the intention of getting a tie from Burberry’s for Andrew as a belated Fathers’ Day gift. After a mushroom bruschetta breakfast and a hazelnutte from Coffee Club, I just thought I’d pop into Hugo Boss to see if anything might catch my eye before going down to the aforesaid destination. Pretty nice ties. Inexpensive too, after the 40% discount. I didn’t want to dally too much, as the salesperson tailing me had a bit of the sniffles, and I’m really paranoid about germs in the air. So I picked one out within a couple of minutes.

I’m a pretty speedy shopper!

bye blogger

June 15, 2008

I am sold, after reading mc’s blog on wordpress. So it’s bye to my old, largely private blogger account, which I shall delete in a couple of minutes. It’s late, so I’ll mess around with this tomorrow.
